Thermocouple Dynamic Errors Correction for Instantaneous Temperature Measurements in Induction Heating

چکیده

Abstrac t The most commonly used thermometer to measure high temperatures in metallurgy is the thermocouple, but because of its long response time it can be used mainly for measuring time-averaged temperatures. Research on steel wire patenting using inductive heating required instantaneous temperature values. Pyrometers or thermographic cameras could be used, however they are generally expensive, and temperature measurements are not always reliable due to differing emissivities. In described case expensive infrared thermometers could be replaced by cheap thermocouple provided that dynamic errors were corrected. Correction algorithm would not increase the total cost of the measuring system as no additional hardware is required. Correction algorithm was implemented in LabVIEW. The time constant was determined experimentally. Experiments were carried out to examine improvement in response time of thermocouple with correction algorithm.

Whispering-gallery mode composite sensors for on-chip dynamic temperature monitoring

Whispering-gallery mode temperature microsensors have been demonstrated to have extremely high accuracy. Previous experiments have been limited to indirect sensor heating by externally heating the local environment. In this paper, we coated PDMS films directly onto an electrical resistive wire as sensors, allowing on-chip dynamic temperature measurement. The effects of sensor size are discussed...

The thermal pulse decay technique for measuring ultrasonic absorption coefficients

The classic method for measuring absorption coefficients ofmaterials requires adetermination of the temperature rise within a medium during ultrasonic irradiation. Serious errors may result from a viscous heating effect around the required thermocouple probe, and from heat lost by conduction to surrounding, cooler egions. A thermal pulse-decay technique is proposed and evaluated which allows fo...

Fast Response Temperature Measurements in a Reciprocating Compressor

Mathematical modeling of the dynamic processes in a compressor involves a knowledge of the various forms of energy exchange occurring in the system. Heat transfer to and from the gas is one such. Any detailed modeling of the heat transfer process would require a detailed knowledge of the temperature variations resolved to temporal scales at least as fine as the finest generated by the dynamics ...

An Approach to Thermocouple Measurements That Reduces Uncertainties in High-Temperature Environments

Obtaining accurate temperature measurements with thermocouples in flame environments is challenging due to the effects of radiative heat losses, as these losses are difficult to quantify. Efforts to minimize radiative losses by, for example, suction pyrometry often result in a significant sacrifice in spatial resolution. In this work, a new experimental methodology is presented that both minimi...

Complexity and Challenges in Noncontact High Temperature Measurements in Microwave-Assisted Catalytic Reactors

The complexity and challenges in noncontact temperature measurements inside microwave-heated catalytic reactors are presented in this paper. A custom-designed microwave cavity has been used to focus the microwave field on the catalyst and enable monitoring of the temperature field in 2D. A methodology to study the temperature distribution in the catalytic bed by using a thermal camera in combin...
